28th November 2017
Saturday 25th November marked the “six months to go” milestone for the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
In case you missed it, the GDPR is a new piece of EU legislation which will apply to all UK businesses (size doesn’t matter), from May next year (regardless of Brexit) and updates the European laws on how personal data of EU citizens is processed by businesses and organisations. Whilst very similar to the UK’s Data Protection Act 1998 it does introduce some changes particularly if you’re a “data processor”, use third party processors, or if you rely on consent as the lawful basis for processing (which you probably do for your digital marketing), although there’s obviously much more to it than that.
Needless to say, if you’ve not already started thinking about how the GDPR applies to your business, then now’s probably a good time start. A good place to start is to have look through this slide deck from a talk Flavourfy Digital (https://flavourfydigital.co.uk) delivered for Sherborne Chamber a couple of weeks ago (https://flavourfydigital.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2017/11/How-the-GDPR-will-change-the-way-you-do-business-Sherborne-Chamber.pdf).
